the last five years the Santa Cruz, CA, band has firmly planted their flag in the hardcore scene with their vicious sound and ripping live show, sharing stages around the world with Circle Jerks, Touché Amoré, and Limp Bizkit, and filling slots at prominent festivals like Coachella, Sick New World, and Reading and Leeds. But with their new album, Are We All Angels, Scowl is aiming to funnel all that aggression through a more expansive version of themselves.
The album ends in a philosophical place on the closing track, “Are We All Angels,” asking questions like, “Is this all there is?” and ultimately putting it on the listener to decide. “It’s about the personal struggle between good & evil. It doesn’t matter how ‘good’ or ‘bad’ you are, there are systems that will try to rewrite your narrative no matter what you actually do,” explains Moss, noting that punctuation on “Are We All Angels” has been deliberately omitted in an attempt to leave the statement open-ended.
Arriving as a standout group in the current American shoegaze renaissance, Phoenix four-piece Glixen transcend all expectations of what the genre should currently look and sound like. The band creates a profoundly heavy sonic experience with their music, paying respects to their predecessors but resulting in something completely modern. An amalgamation of influences like Björk, My Bloody Valentine, Godflesh, t.A.T.u, and Hum, their sound crawls with intensity and introspection to contrast lead singer Aislinn Ritchie’s lulling vocals.

first of three monumental dance parties in the streets. We’re tootin’ all the horns for this one – we’ve got art cars, fire dancers, food trucks, art installations, activities, sweet sweet beats, the highest of vibrations, and more!
And the best part is, it’s free! Just come on down, captain!
For the first act, we’re featuring none other than SACHA ROBOTTI of the mighty Dirtybird Records. When a lil upstart hooligan camp by the name o’ ye olde Second Rodeo was deep in the midst of its first rodeo, this fella showed up and rocked the proverbial socks off the place. Times were had. Talented producer and all around class act, we’re thrilled for him to throw down 9-11pm at the plaza, aboard the good ship Edna!
Rounding out the outdoor slate are the absolute dawgs NatNotNate, Rainbow Squid, and Z.
The wheels don’t stop there, though! The afterparty churns on at the fabled Dead Ringer Analog Bar.
We’re elated for the return of San Francisco’s ZACKY for the afters. Fun fact: Zacky (fka R. Fentz) played one of the very first House Party events at the Dead Ringer, way back in the halcyon days of March 2019. We love Zacky and his music, and can’t wait for this historically significant reunion!
House Party regulas Teyquerisi, Jimmy Dirt, and Bridges will join in the fun.
And with that, we’re all set to depart on a most proper of evenings!
