        The English Beat, known as The Beat in their native UK, were a prominent British Two Tone ska band formed in Birmingham in 1978. The band, fronted by Dave Wakeling, blended ska, pop, soul, reggae, and punk rock, with lyrics touching on love, unity, and social issues. They achieved success with three studio albums and a string of hit singles before disbanding in 1983. Wakeling has continued to perform and tour as The English Beat, playing the band’s classics and newer material.
