and’s cacophonous sound takes elements from almost every facet of the harsher corners of electronic music. The cut “Red was the Color of the Candle” is perhaps their most technically complex song to date, with Gabby and drummer/producer Jarrod Hine shoving ideas against each other under a dark pulsating musical sequence. A flurry of glitchy, heavy synth patterns combined with hard-hitting distorted cross rhythms creates this dissonant, syncopated landscape that’s the perfect breeding ground for the raw, intimidating vocals that are ever-present in the band’s unique sound.

that fuses elements of noise rock, grunge, and shoegaze into something decidedly their own. students of conceptual architecture and fine art, julie constructs their aesthetic experience through a variety of mediums which surround and embody the music.
Support from New York/Atlanta based band Lowertown, consisting of Olivia O. (Olive Osby) and Avsha (Avshalom Weinberg). First meeting in math class their sophomore year of high school, the two became friends over their shared taste in music. Since Olive and Avsha were both already writing, recording, and releasing songs under their respective solo projects, they decided the summer going into their junior year they were to form a band of just the two of them.
That following school year, they released their debut project, which was written, recorded, performed and produced entirely in Avsha’s basement. The two went on to sign to Dirty Hit in their senior year of high school and released three subsequent projects under the label and began touring with bands such as Wet Leg, Beabadoobee, and Porches.
It’s hard to pin down Lowertown as one brand or idea, because their sound ranges from delicate and sentimental piano and guitar ballads to dirty and dejected punk tracks. They have retaine their dedicated, longtime fanbase and captivated new listeners through their eccentric and energetic live performances, ever-evolving sound, and aesthetic. Lowertown aims to leave the listener with a refreshing feeling of excitement and connection to their raw emotions and the question of “What’s next?”

istinct original compositions, along with an array of both vintage and modern cover arrangements. The band's live sets are known for flowing in and around a winding fusion of grooves while leaning on a foundation of experimental Funk, Soul, and R&B sounds.
Expecting the funk in its purest primordial form: A confluence of tight, technical tunes dripping with that amalgam of mud and forest floor, where spores rise of their own accord and you have no choice but to sit and sully your blue-and-white dress to consider the mushroom, to heed the nearby placard reading: “Eat me.”

gcraft and pop sensibility. After finally embracing all that is sweet and sublime as one of the songwriters of San Francisco’s shoegaze darlings, Modern Charms, Palm continues to explore the saccharine side of things with his new project, Supercrush, from Seattle, Washington.
Dusk, from Appleton, Wisconsin, is a group that walks the shadowed path. It’s well known in the rural pastures of Wisconsin, where all of the members of this group were raised, that the traditional music of the common people is Polka, but the most respected form of musical expression is Country and Western. Dusk walks cleanly between these two worlds; pulling influence from both but most strongly associating with Rock & Roll and Rhythm & Blues. They bring with them a strong, informed, melodic statement that draws a line between themselves and the trend of bubble gum pop and country-influenced mall schlock.
The group consists of vocalist Julia Blair on Wurlitzer electric piano, Colin “Wild Man” Wilde on drums and percussion, Amos Pitsch on bass guitar and vocals, Tyler Ditter on lead guitar, and Ryley Crowe on rhythm guitar, pedal steel, and vocals. Amos also doubles as a member of Appleton, Wisconsin punk band Tenement. The group is often compared to 60’s garage and R&B groups like NRBQ and THE LOVIN SPOONFUL, early 70’s country rock pioneers THE FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS, and at times the primitive rock and roll sound of a group like THE VELVET UNDERGROUND.
They hint at all these things, even as something in their music seems to breathe modern air. It’s a feeling that few musicians that attempt to nod to prior generations can capture without bastardising the very music that they intended to salute. Dusk have done it well, and in their music, you’ll find this plain truth among many exciting secrets.
